Creative Something

Creative Inspiration

  1. You are creative. Really.

It takes a little creativity to do anything.

Summer days in Utah bring a scorching sun and with it a seemingly endless heat wave.

There were times, years ago, when I would lay down in my home next to an air conditioning vent, attempting to cool off from the fiery air of the day. I remember lying next to the vent and thinking about the person who put it there. Somebody spent time thinking of a layout for all of the vents that would cool the home. Somebody had to put together a plan, gather the parts, and put them together in the houses’ foundation for the air condition.

To me, lying there next to the vent, the person who constructed my home’s air condition system was a creative genius.

Do you think that the person who put that air conditioning system into place thought that it was creative work? Chances are: no. They were just doing their job. They were doing what they had done for years before, and they – most likely – thought nothing much of the work they did that day. But they solved a problem, didn’t they? They had to find a way to setup the air conditioning system.

To me, someone who hasn’t put together an air conditioning system in a home, that was brilliant.

We all have things that we do every day that are creative. We solve our own little problems every day, in work, in our relationships, in our play. To us, the things we do seem regular. We’ve been doing the things we do for so long that we forget to remind ourselves: we are doing something that possibly nobody else can do.

Sure, there are a lot of people who can install air conditioning systems and plan the architecture behind such a system. There are a lot of people who can do what you do, too. But nobody, absolutely nobody can do what you do… quite like you do it.

That’s your creativity, even if you don’t see it.
