Motivation Monday: You can be a genius too.

There’s a common myth that is popular to follow. The myth states that genius is a class you must be born into.

To be a genius, to match the abilities and creativity of those who have changed the world in some form or another ‒ Mozart, Edison, Einstein, to name a few ‒ you must be a naturally born genius. If you don’t have genius genes in you, then you can’t become a great composer or artist or inventor or anything really. This is not true.

I’m going to tell you how to be a genius.

Are you ready to learn how to become a genius? The secret to becoming a creative genius is this: you have to work hard.

David Shenk, author of “The Genius in All of Us” and regular contributor to the New Yorker, believes that being a genius isn’t anything that special. In an interview with the Guardian David states:

There is a quantitative and qualitative difference in the practice undertaken by the super-greats ‒ say in basketball ‒ and the mere greats. They work hard at being great. It isn’t bestowed at birth… . Our genes influence our lives, but equally our lives influence our genes.

Be sure to read the entire (brief) interview with David on why genius isn’t in the genes.
