Paper work by Nicole Dextras

When you see a sheet of paper, what possibilities do you imagine?

You could use a pencil or marker or pen to draw on the piece of paper, that’s a given. You could fold the paper over several times to create something resembling an airplane or frog or swan. You could even turn the sheet of paper into a hat, if you know how.

What about a shirt? When you see a t‒shirt what’s possible to do with it?

For visual artist Nicole Dextras, a sheet of paper or a t‒shirt hold more possible, visual uses than grains of sand along a beach.

Through paper casting Nicole creates stunning symbols resembling ancient relics. With clothing and ice she creates ephemeral scultpures.

It’s her ability to think of a creative idea using simple materials that most people wouldn’t think to use, that make Nicole a creative artist. Her work is inspiring in a sense that she isn’t afraid of doing unconventional displays.

Creativity flourishes when you do things differently, symbolically, or unintentionally. For proof: simply look through Nicole’s website.
